For the past two months or so I have been staying in IIT Bombay campus which is situated in Powai. But what's really worth mentioning is that I am not staying in Colaba any more. Alas!!! Ah how I miss Colaba now. Is this a normal human nature of is it just me? I miss the place I leave!! I remember writing a long post about Chennai. And here I am just about managing to stop myself from writing a long article about Colaba. Let me just say that I miss it enormously and spare you the trouble of listening to how I miss some very specific things such as walks on the TIFR beach, the view from the West canteen, the rising moon just behind a huge tree near the entrance of the TIFR office building, the Colaba Causeway window shopping, the most amazing pastry shop called Theobrama, Beri Pulow in Brittania, coffee in Cafe Royal, evenings well spent in Coffee Bean and Tea Leaves, beer giraffe in Cafe Universal.... my office mates (Gugan, Rakesh, Saswata, Smarajit)...., my friends (Anisa, Supriya, Amit, Prachi, Chandrasheel), the comp sc gang, the math gang, sharing the office floor with Jaikumar(!!), (I didn't spare you after all.) And I am just starting....
Shifting the house was a huge hassle and settling down properly was yet another big annoying task. I am yet not totally settled. One of the biggest unsettling factors being: eating the food made by myself! But believe it or not, I am getting better at it. I love coming back to the my house (it IS damn pretty) and to Chikku, and cooking some hot khichadi or roti for myself while listening to amazing songs, taking long walks with Chikku and generally minding my own business.
What's missing? Certainly books. All my books are lying in boxes at my parent's place. I think its time I go buy some books. Just today I spotted an amazing coffee shop near DMart at Hiranandani, and also saw a Crossword near it. Today I couldn't have spent time book surfing, but over the weekend I surely will. Any suggestions?
What else is missing? I guess a good pastry shop. Please don't suggest Mad Over Donuts. That's not counted! I don't expect it to be as good as Theobrama, but something half as good will do.
Yet another thing that's missing is some evening sport/activity. I would love to find out about the gym facility on the campus, of course there is a swimming pool and I need to get a pass for that. I had tried to start learning classical singing when I was at TIFR but due to some unforeseen situations it stopped. (No, it was not because someone beat me up after listening to my songs, it was not even that the teacher ran away.... It was NOT, I insist!) May be I can give that another shot.
Any way, it's now time for a long evening walk. Enjoy your weekend....

Nice to see you getting senti about Colaba!
Evening activity in IITB - climb the hill every other day! Well, it could get boring after a while. But till then ...
Classical singing? You?! If you want to find out about learning on campus, ask Abhiram, good bet.
And while you browse for more books next door, how about lugging those books from Borivli to Powai some day as well? I think you have quite some gems in those boxes, no?
Enough gyan ...

@Meena: It's wonderful to get a visit and a comment from you.
There is no access to the hill currently. Leopard threat! But as soon as they allow, I will start going there. The hill is in my backyard.
I'm sure I'll kill a few people with laughter once I start singing. :) Ok, I'll ask Abhiram.
Oh yes. I have some really really good books there. About the shift: It's mostly inertia. But also, I am not sure how long I will stay in this apartment. I was hoping to minimize the shift.
Great show Nutan! Getting a visit from the boss herself! :P
I would love to find out about the gym facility on the campus
Well, the so-called campus gyms (there are a couple) are primarily for lifting weights. There's also a squash court and badminton court, but they are too crowded unless you get there at 6am. If cardio is what you want to do, there's a near broken treadmill, or the roads, if you have a pair of good running shoes.
Climbing the hill is not so bad, you can go up to the fence and take a sneak peek at the Vihar lake.
@sps: yes! I am delighted, to say the least.
@vishnu: that's bad news! I was hoping there were elliptical trainers. Recently, I got a shoulder problem because of which I cannot run too much.. at least for a few more months.
Good to know that the hill is accessible.
I was hoping there were elliptical trainers.
Not that I know of (but I might not know much). For all you know, they could come up one day in the new sports complex being constructed.
I'm nearly sure that you can find them in one of those expensive gyms outside (but not too far from) campus!
As told in the other comment gym has mostly weights ... but there are nice places to walk around Powai lake. Try going to boathouse or the road between H8 and guest house. Sameer is a nice climb. Also you can be part of numerous sports activities done by undergrads :P. Slightly off topic, did you try maddu mess ?
rajat
Try Ribbons and Balloons. It is cake shop located in Galleria in Hiranandani.
@athena: thanks for visiting my blog! i just visited your blog. very interesting. i recently tried the cake shop you mentioned. had chocolate pyramid there.
