Recently, I have started bird watching. I am pleasantly surprised to find out that there are so so many different species of birds right here, inside IITB! I have also started a vermi-culture pit and we recycle all the wet garbage in our household. I have started planting trees (so far I only have Tulasi (basil?) and hope to grow veggies enough to be able to serve our daily requirements. That is obviously a long term goal. As a baby step, I am going to plant chilies, curry leaves and coriander. We'll see how it goes from here. So basically, these days I am into all things that bring me close to nature. At the risk of sounding like a hippie -- I am turning into one, am I not? -- let me confess that I am a full blown nature lover freak now.
However, this post isn't about my love for nature or a rant about how all those ignorant fools who don't care for nature should be taught a lesson or two etc. :) But this is about the new beginnings.
As I already said, bird watching is new. My first ever bird watching walk was supposed to start at 7:00am. I got ready and wore shoes etc. thinking that the whole bird watching thingie will end by 8:00am or so and then I can do a short run and come back. I was in for a huge surprise! These walks typically go on for hours! I, a person who had seen fancy birds only in zoos, failed to realize that spotting birds is like trying to look for clothes in your closet (stop judging my closet maintenance skills already!). You need to be lucky, you need to be at the right place at the right time and most importantly you need to know where to find what! All of this takes a loooong time! But you know what? It is absolutely worth your time. Inside IITB I have spotted many wonderful birds in the last six months. Rather than listing them here, I'll post some photos shortly and you can see them for yourself.
Moving on, recycling all the wet garbage at home is certainly another new beginning. To do this, we simply got a hole dug just outside our house. We put some vermi-culture in it and now for the last month or so, we have been dumping all the wet garbage right in it. It is so easy that it seems silly to not do it! If only I did this earlier in my life! Oh well!
As a result of many other things and going ons, I have been slacking on the fitness front. (Dare not mention that "it's showing" to me when you see me next. I have grown huger and you better be careful! :)) But recently, on the fitness front, I discovered the amazing resistance belts. If you are into fitness and haven't tried using resistance belts, rush to the nearest store and buy yourself those amazing triplet of bands! Look up what all you can do with them. If you don't have access to a gym, the resistance belts will help you simulate your own gym at home! No kidding!
Tomorrow I am about to venture into yet another new territory, the hundred thousand territory! Yes, I turn 100,000 tomorrow (*geek alert*, don't kill me, at least not before tomorrow!). It will be a while before I reach the 1 million territory (32 more years to be precise!) Let me take this opportunity to thank all you amazing people who tirelessly read my boring posts (anybody there?) and all the lovely people in my life who have made my getting all the way here absolutely pleasant and memorable.
