Not in my prime!

I turned 35 today. So not in my prime anymore! I will be back in my prime when I turn 37 though! :) (Sledge hammering the joke for the benefit of the reader. :P Also, joke courtesy S.)

I wonder what the world would be like in another 35 years! If I were to bet on the following, here's how I would do it. (I am willing to spend maximum Rs 100 on any bet and I know inflation will make it negligible, but just play along, won't you?)


  • Humans on Mars? Rs. 50
  • Machines >> Humans? -Rs. 100
    No way Machines can match humans. I hear whispers from ML researchers saying "Challenge accepted" :)
  • NP vs. P question resolved? Rs. 0, but at least 10 other central questions in complexity theory resolved? Rs 100.
  • Time travel? Rs. -100.
    Isn't there some paradox there?
  • A better society for women? Rs. 50
    One hopes. See how sure I am about Humans on Mars!! :)
  • Men being able to have babies. Rs. 100.
    There you biologists, go for it! In you I trust!
  • Being gay (or for that matter LGBTQ) becoming legal. Rs. 90.
    I know, one is never sure given the current tone. But in my life span I have seen a huge positive change in the mentality of people and surely in double that time, things would get better, right?
  • Travel time between places on Earth cut down by at least 1/2.
    Rs. 100. Obviously! If I plot a graph of travel times from 1982 to now, my guess is the best guess.

All this provided Global warming or the powers that be don't get us killed before that. :D

Her.

Did I mention that I am a lawyer? I passed with pretty good grades and was hired by a small private law firm. My boss happens to be a very professional person. Also very famous for the criminal cases. What he sublets his assistants are simply cases of divorce. I have handled as many divorce cases as I have attended marriages. I come to believe that, it all adds up to zero. If I was slightly less optimistic I would never have gotten married. I was late for my work. My friend once told me that he works in a firm where he doesn't have to reach on a certain time. The work environment is so good that it hardly matters as long as you are giving enough work output. He was amazed to know that I take same train every morning to reach office at the same time. I am not a very disciplined guy or anything. But I hate missing my work timings. Slumdog Millionaire, what's the fuss all about?

I saw the movie a few days ago. I really don't understand: why so much fuss? If an Indian director makes a fully filmy hindi movie, no one gives a damn about it. But some non-indian comes and makes this movie and people are going all ga ga about it. A.R. Rehman has given music better than "jai ho". Anil Kapur has done roles better than this. This movie has set new records in making a big deal out of a not-so-amazing movie. I say this because, even a huge fuss has been made about why there is so much fuss about this movie. That is like the second order fuss about the movie! And here, I am making the third order fuss with a huge lot accompanying me in doing so. To start the tirade-- The main guy is such a put off! He has a unique expression on his face, indicating he really has no clue what people are talking about. You are supposed to be poor, not dumb for god's sake!
