saturday etc...

My weekends are becoming more and more happening. The saturday seminar series starts my weekends. Thats a long story which in short can be summarised as: a bunch of us who are moronic enough to waste our saturday mornings reading derandomization algorithms---which are...thats a really really long story and can't be made short----, wake up and gather together. One of us gives a talk and others try to listen and understand. For me, it has been highly fruitful(i am learning things) and refreshing (reading something completely orthogonal to my research--which is....well, thats another long story which can be made really short ;)).

Then I go out somewhere and have my lunch. Chennai weather is currently meharbaan on us which means-- going out in the afternoon doesn't seem too much of a drag. Anyways, the day's description is not the point, but the point is I am liking my weekedns lately. They are pretty refreshing.

I watched a movie called Glengarry Glen Ross. If you have liked American Beauty, About a boy etc movies, good chance is that you will like this movie. I liked this movie.... Kevin Spacey is so damn talented!!! This is the first movie in which I even liked Al Pacino. (Strange as it may sound, I usually don't like Al Pacino that much) Each of the acting performances are a bit better than what one could expect. (I mean, one expects really good role from someone like Kevin Spacey....)

Its funny almost that I am liking Chennai lately. And I feel sheepish enough to make this confession, but its true.

Good weekends are always a welcome refresher to the rest of the week, especially when the weather is nice!!!

Wah!!! Mumbaichi mulgila Chennai avadle!!! That was my attempt at Marathi after a few hundred years. Hope it makes sense ;-)

Glad ur likign chennai .. always felt a strange connection to tht city ... and cant tell you woman how good it feels to hear u sound so thrilled about something :) take care and continue having fun ...

There is more to a city than that meets the eye. I felt the same way towards Bangalore and Hyderabad, realised how much I have not explored only later on.

Enjoy the theatre show. The script sounds interesting.

hey vish, thats for stopping by... sadly cudn't attend the show...not felling too bad because a friend has a dvd of the movie death and the maiden..... its a good movie...i have seen its hindi version featuring sonali kulkarni and kay kay...that was not bad...

Slumdog Millionaire, what's the fuss all about?

I saw the movie a few days ago. I really don't understand: why so much fuss? If an Indian director makes a fully filmy hindi movie, no one gives a damn about it. But some non-indian comes and makes this movie and people are going all ga ga about it. A.R. Rehman has given music better than "jai ho". Anil Kapur has done roles better than this. This movie has set new records in making a big deal out of a not-so-amazing movie. I say this because, even a huge fuss has been made about why there is so much fuss about this movie. That is like the second order fuss about the movie! And here, I am making the third order fuss with a huge lot accompanying me in doing so. To start the tirade-- The main guy is such a put off! He has a unique expression on his face, indicating he really has no clue what people are talking about. You are supposed to be poor, not dumb for god's sake! its a love story of two strange people who never knew they could fall for each other when they first met they only ended up fighting but slowy it became clear to them that they sure shared something a small problem happened when pride overtook him he thought she was less smarter than him she would solve a puzzle and he would solve it again he would tell her that she was simply an idea away from him... he said that he always gets this idea and then he does all that she can and probably much more... one day she decided his behaviour had to be checked she thought for a while and then she said... fine, then you sure can do everything but if you are strictly more smart you have to do the following think of some puzzle that you can easily do and then give it to me to solve and lets see if i can't do.... all the king's men and all the king's horses could not come up with a puzzle like this the duo got closer and the world around more curious today as it stands the puzzle is still ...
